To support, encourage and motivate our youth to foster growth and development of community based voluntary service projects and envisions a powerful network of youths who are committed to making voluntary service and service-learning the common expectation and common life experience. The scope of work is to clean-up the outside grounds, tree areas, building sides, dead plants, dead leaves and other non-hazardous materials. Landscaping will include spreading mulch, planting flower plants, pruning small shrubs and beautifying and enhancing peripheral selected areas as guided by the site leader. The Takoma Community Center is a brand new big recreation building located in Washington to the Montgomery county boundary. This has a new big indoor swimming pool and outside play grounds.
Community service of up to 10 hours based on the number of hours of participation will be approved for this community service activity. Plants for the landscaping, gardening supplies such as fertilizer, mulch will be provided, however, you should bring a bag or two with you. Please bring the gardening tools. ALL CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR THE CHINMAYA MISSION T-SHIRTS. The shirts may be bought from the bookstore if needed.
Adult volunteers will be required to supervise. Parents accompanying children can help. All should bring brown bag snacks and lunch. Permission Slips must be signed for the child to participate in the activity at the venue or before.
Special Attraction: We negotiated for our Children to be allowed for indoor swimming FREE after 2:30 pm on this day to clean-up ourselves. Please provide the names to V. Sreenivas (301) 879-0911 for total head count. Please bring your swimming clothes. Swim hours will not be included for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours!

SPECIAL NOTE TO MEMBERS: Saturday Bala Vihar students can come directly after their class. Can drive to this place by 12:00 pm. Please have children come to site before 11:00 AM. This would help children for a quality participation time with other children. Sign-up sheets and permission slip will be available on site. Parents are more than welcome to assist along with children and supervise. Every one is to come directly to the site. If some parents prefer they can carpool. Children are expected to be dropped off and picked up at the site only. Parents can stay with them if they choose to do so. Parking is at recreation center building and also road side. School documents for SSL can be filled eventually at the mission.
